A Fall Welcome
MUMS and CABBAGE
Everyone’s go to fall flower is the Mum. And rightly so, so they are so bushy, and full of flower heads, they really make a statement! But have you looked at the fall ornamental cabbage or kale? They are so pretty and give your outdoor space such a unique look.

Ornamental Cabbage
Pairing mums and cabbage/and or kale together really does make a statement. I like putting them in my flower containers instead of the ground. I no longer try to grow mums as perennials. Most of the time they don’t come back or if they do, I forget to pinch of the flower heads in June or whatever the timing is. Just TOO MUCH work….so I treat them as annuals. Especially when you usually can get them so cheap!
Fall Porch Flowers
So about this time, late August, my summer annuals are starting to get leggy and I know it’s time to pull those suckers up and get the pots and containers ready for the fall planting. This way I’ll have ALL of September, October and most of November to enjoy them! Actually, the cabbage will last all winter, even through snow! At least here in Kentucky. So it’s something that keeps on giving!

Perfect Porch Sittin
So start looking around and see where you can plant some mums and ornamental cabbage. I even like to put them on my front porch in clay pots on a cute little straw bale. Add a fake or real pumpkin, maybe some Indian corn and you’re all set for a really cool fall display!
