Well, I say it every year from winter through spring….I never want summer to end. THEN, about this time, 3rd week of August, it finally hits me….I’m ready for FALL!

Bring on the Fall
Now, I know most of my other social media décor gurus have already been on the “Let’s Bring On Fall” bandwagon since about August first! But I kept preaching, NO….let’s hold on to summer….I don’t want it to end. Until now. NOW I’m ready. It literally hit me this weekend. It’s SO hot here in Kentucky in August. Like so hot you really can’t do much outside. And we had a “window” open at our two Airbnb rental homes between guests, so I thought it would be the perfect time to switch over into our fall décor at both properties. That my friend, got the old creative juices flowing for fall.
I have two totally different vibes going for the properties. Percival House has a lot of blue, creams and it’s a smaller house and I decided that first year we listed it, I wanted to go with the soft blues and cream pumpkins. But for the Modern Farmhouse, I want to go traditional. This house is light and airy, big spaces, so I want to do the orange pumpkins with some black and white buffalo plaid thrown in.
Mix Up Your Style
I do love Fall, even though I rant about not wanting summer to end. I love sunflowers, pumpkins, corn stalks, hay, cinnamon apple scent…..all the things that speak farmhouse fall style. So let’s dive into some cool ideas you might want to incorporate in your space that I have used at both houses plus my own home as well.
For this blog post, I’m going to focus on the outside of our Modern Farmhouse. I like focusing on the front entry, as this is the first thing guests see when they arrive. For your own home (and mine!) it’s also nice to be greeted ourselves with a welcoming look. Pretty decor, afterall, isn’t just for guests! Decorating for our own home is a bit more fun than for our rental properties, as I can add some layered textures with quilts or blankets. It’s not practical to do this for the rental houses, as I can’t be there to bring things inside if the weather gets bad with storms. I have cute black painted rockers on the Modern Farmhouse front porch, so I love the pop of color the faux pumpkin brings along with a pretty vase of silk sunflowers. I thought about adding some real mums, but my summer flowers are still looking pretty, so I will wait on the fall potted plants a few more weeks.
This tall FALL wooden sign I made years ago from an old piece of lumber. I think it adds a nice touch to the front porch and definitely lets you know we are ready for Fall. (bonus, the other side says SUMMER, so I get two seasons from one board!) If this were for my own home, I would definitely throw a pretty black and white buffalo plaid blanket over the taller black rocker, just to give it some more depth. But it’s just not practical here.
Don’t foget about the front door wreath. I bought this cute faux boxwood wreath from Hobby Lobby back in the spring and I’ve used it for every season just by adding things to it. For fall, I have added a nice big burlap bow. I think it’s simplicity is perfect. Plus it’s one less thing I have to buy (or store for later!)
