I’m often asked how to find one’s own personal style. That’s a very good question! You see, style is all subjective.

Finding your own personal style
Well it’s easier these days to find that answer. Twenty years ago I would tell clients and friends alike, to head to the magazine section of their local bookstore and find what magazine (or more) appealed to them, then tear out the pages of the looks they liked (after purchasing of course!). Then start a file or binder & compile all these looks to help narrow down their style. You are able to see a pattern to the things you are drawn too. Now, with the help of online platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, it’s SO much easier!
Create a Board
So to start, head to Pinterest! Create a board and label it “My Style”, then start searching through your feed and pick things that make you happy! Take your time….do this over the course of days or weeks. You’ll notice a trend in your choices after you look back over your board. Whether it be your color choices, or the types of furniture, the clean lines, minimal look, farmhouse, or the trendy Boho style…you’ll notice a pattern to what you’re drawn too.
I personally love an eclectic mixture of all things. I love color, but I also like calm and neutral colors. Lately I’m more drawn to beiges and taupes on the warm side, as I’ve never been a big fan of gray and am happy to report, the trend is moving more to the warm side. (but again, it’s all a personal taste! Nothing wrong with grays!) Keeping my big ticket items like couches and chairs in the more neutral shades allows me to add pops of color and pattern in the form of pillows, rugs, accessories, even blankets and throws, so I can swap these things out as my mood changes and it doesn’t break the bank! And as my hubby can attest, I change things often!
Being you matters!
My advice…..don’t fret over what your “Style” is. You do what YOU like. It’s your home, your life….and creating a space where YOU feel comfortable in is all that matters.
What colors do you like? Are you a minimalist or love lots of things to fill your home? I’d love to hear from you!
