I wanted to write a new post about how we used the ever so popular Barn Lighting for our Modern Farmhouse. When I first wrote about them, the house wasn’t completely finished yet, so I thought now would be the time to update and show you just how great they look!

BARN LIGHTING FOR THE MODERN FARMHOUSE
I knew I wanted to use this style of lighting for the outside of the house. We installed 2 on the front porch. I love how they cast the light down and not in your face, blinding you as you enter the house. We also installed one over the back door that goes out to the big covered back porch, and we installed another over the kitchen window that looks out onto this porch. It really is all that’s needed in the evening to give great lighting to the porch.
Barn Lights for Inside too!
In the planning stages of the Farmhouse, I knew the front bedroom would be for 2 twin beds. You see, I like to plan EVERYTHING out way in advance. I took my graph paper to make sure the furniture I had planned on using would fit in the spaces I wanted them to go. So I also decided at this point that having barn light fixtures over each bed would be the perfect look I was after!
I just love how they look in this room. Each light fixture has it’s own switch by the bed, so it makes for perfect reading in bed at night.
Kitchen Lighting

Kitchen
I also wanted a barn light over our kitchen sink. With the 14′ high ceiling in the peak, standard kitchen cabinets would have looked to skimpy and out of place. So I went with 42″ uppers and that little space between the cabinet and open shelving above the window just screamed for a barn light!
MORE BARN LIGHTS!

Ektorp couches
I also added one at the steps landing. It gives just enough light to maneuver the steps at night without turning on the big overhead can lighting. Plus I think it adds a nice decorative touch too!
For the upstairs landing and also downstairs hall….I wanted the barn light look, but needed a ceiling fixture, so I went with this style. It gives off great light, has the farmhouse style but I switched up the metal to this galvanized look. I also installed one in the little sloped bedroom too!
So if you like my Barn light fixtures I chose….please click this link for the sconces or this link for the ceiling mount to be taken to the exact ones I bought from Amazon! Amazon has amazing light fixtures. I’ve taken all the hard work from you by searching for the best ones with the best reviews! And I highly recommend these!
