I get asked often how I describe my style and where do I get the items to fill the new house we’re building. Well, my style changes, often! But right now I’m in my “Modern Farmhouse” mood!

Farmhouse Style Dining
For the dining area, I was lucky to get my son’s hand-me-down table! We actually bought it for him from Walmart back when he was in college living in a little house. It was in great shape but needed some updating. Nothing that a little sanding and adding a darker stain to the top wouldn’t cure. I used my favorite gel stain I bought from Amazon (click here). I love how it turned out. It’s large enough to seat six easily. Your tabletop is the perfect area to add in some great elements to change throughout the season as well.
Industrial Chairs
Next I needed to figure out what kind of chairs to use. I could have gone with the traditional wood chairs, stained or painted. But I decided the idea of a little industrial style would lend well to the more modern feel I was going for. I searched lots of sites and landed on these awesome chairs from Amazon. They were easy to put together and seem very well built. They keep the open dining area more light in feel visually.

I also found matching stools for the rustic island. They fit perfectly underneath and I love how the metal looks with the wood. They really give me that look that I wanted. This island is an exact duplicate (only smaller) as Noah’s workbench in the Ark Encounter! I couldn’t be more thrilled with it! I aged it the same way I did the original one for the Ark.
Adding in other elements like the galvanized wall container with some silk flowers give a nice lift to the corner. I will change the flowers according to the seasons. I also wanted the house to have décor influenced by the farm animals that we once cared for on the farm, so I found a great cow photo and had it enlarged and framed. I think it fits perfect for this space!
So this is my current style! It feels warm, inviting but not cluttered. What’s your style? I’d love to hear from you!
