New Life for Old Furniture
The quickest way to add new life to this old chest I’ve had since childhood (my Mother actually painted it white when I was a young girl and I love all the chipy-ness!) was to add new knobs! It went from very dated, to looking modern farmhouse in less than 10 minutes. I bought the knobs at my local big box home improvement store for around $23 for a 10 pack. If you don’t need this many, there are so many options ranging from as little as $1.99 to $4.00 per knob
Update with Paint
For another old piece I bought from Goodwill for $22.00, I used my favorite General Finishes Milk Paint. This project took a full day, as I applied two coats of paint, with dry time in between. But the end result was fantastic. I kept the original handles, as I loved the colored stone detail they had.
Here’s an awesome old dining table I found during last summers 127 Yard Sale that I converted into a coffee table.
The 127 Yard Sale is a multi state event that starts from Michigan and runs down into Alabama! All along the 127 Corridor. It happens once a year and we plan our weekend around this event! This piece was the perfect size that I was looking for in a coffee table for the new Modern Farmhouse we were building. All that was needed, was to cut the legs down to size. Talk about instant gratification!! And it looks perfect in the space. (FYI, the average coffee table height is between 16″ – 18″)
How about an unexpected surprise in a piece of furniture? This is another cute little find along the 127 Yard sale a couple years ago. I painted the table blue & distressed it after I bought it, but for some added interest, I glued some pretty Scrap Paper to the drawer inside! I love how the pop of black and white makes a statement when you open the little drawer. I also added a nice little knob to update the piece.
So as you can see, it’s not hard to flip an older piece of furniture you may have and instantly (or almost instantly) update it for a fresh new look. What items do you have that you might want to change up? I’d love to see them! Send me your inspirations!
